CDP is next step for sustainable companies
Sustainability and environmental responsibility are becoming essential aspects of modern business. One of the key tools that enable companies to quantify and manage their environmental impact is the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

What is CDP?
CDP is an independent nonprofit organization that collects data on carbon emissions and other environmental indicators from companies worldwide. This data is then analyzed and made available to investors, the public, and other stakeholders. CDP plays a crucial role in promoting transparency and responsible business practices by encouraging corporate reporting on carbon footprints and environmental impact.
CI3 is the official expert partner of CDP for the Czech Republic and Slovakia. To simplify the delivery of relevant information, we provide businesses with full support, methodological guidance, and materials, including carbon footprint calculations in accordance with international standards—entirely in Czech.
CDP Scoring System
CDP evaluates corporate environmental performance using a structured scoring system. This classification enables the comparison and assessment of companies’ sustainability efforts, encouraging improvements and greater transparency in environmental responsibility.
This system helps investment firms and other stakeholders better understand the level of corporate engagement in sustainability and environmental responsibility

Why is CDP Important?
Transparency and Credibility: Participation in CDP signals a commitment to transparency and responsible business practices. Companies that report their carbon footprint through CDP enhance the credibility of their disclosures and strengthen relationships with customers, investors, and regulators.
Risk Assessment: CDP helps companies identify environmental risks and opportunities related to climate change and sustainability. This gives them an advantage in planning and adapting to evolving conditions.
Investment Opportunities: Businesses that actively address their environmental impact and report their data through CDP are often more attractive to sustainable investors and funds looking for companies with strong environmental performance.
Why Start Now?
Every company should consider joining the CDP program as soon as possible. It is an internationally recognized initiative, trusted by investors, business partners, and government organizations.
CDP has numerous partner organizations and participating companies in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Some of the major companies involved include ČEZ, Skanska, ŠKODA AUTO, ČSOB, O2 Czech Republic, and many others. At CI3, we have collaborated on CDP reporting in the Czech Republic with companies such as Megatech, Moneta, Moravia Cans, VÚZ, and CPI. In Slovakia, we have worked with Grafobal and Slovenská Grafia. Many of these companies achieved a B rating in 2023.
All these companies have made the conscious decision to contribute to environmental protection and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by transparently reporting their environmental performance and committing to sustainable development. Their participation in CDP demonstrates their dedication to responsible business and environmental stewardship.
The Key Reasons to Get Involved:
Rising Expectations: Customers, investors, and regulators increasingly expect companies to be transparent about their environmental impact. A lack of transparency can lead to a loss of credibility and business opportunities.
Regulatory Pressure: Growing regulatory requirements around sustainability and carbon emissions mean that companies without proper strategies to address their carbon footprint may face sanctions and restrictions.
Competitive Advantage: Leading in sustainability can provide companies with a market edge. Businesses that can effectively reduce their carbon footprint may attract new customers and build stronger loyalty among existing ones.
What is the Difference Between CDP and ESG?
Although they may seem similar at first glance, CDP and ESG are two distinct approaches to measuring corporate sustainability and responsibility. CDP focuses specifically on managing greenhouse gas emissions and water-related risks. ESG also addresses environmental issues but extends further to include social factors (e.g., employee conditions) and governance factors (e.g., transparency). Unlike ESG, CDP provides a more in-depth analysis of specific areas, offering highly detailed technical data.
Given the growing importance of sustainability and transparency, measuring a company’s carbon footprint through CDP is one of the key tools for businesses seeking a deeper understanding of their emissions impact. Companies should begin the CDP assessment process as soon as possible to gain a competitive advantage, minimize risks, and meet the expectations of customers, investors, and regulators.
CI3 and the SCO2 Program
Additionally, CI3 offers a unique follow-up service in the Czech Republic—participation in the SLEDUJEME / SNIŽUJEME CO₂ (SCO2) program. This initiative aligns with international and national climate agreements and action plans. Its goal is to raise awareness about climate protection, support and promote specific organizations, and highlight actions and projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂ offsetting).
